A 1984 Atascadero High School graduate was named Public Information Officer of the Year by the California Emergency Management Agency this summer.

Tina Walker was involved in media and public outreach for multiple disasters in 2010, including the fatal gas line explosion in San Bruno in September 2010.

Walker was honored for her work to effectively communicate to the public under stressful conditions and other ongoing efforts. She began working for Cal EMA in May 2008.

The award ceremony was held in Sacramento.
