A new Paso Robles hotel is under construction and could welcome its first guests early next year.
The Southern California-based developers, Paso Robles Grand Oaks Inn LLC, are building The Oaks, a three-story, 90-room hotel, at Riverside Avenue and Black Oak Drive. The roughly $9 million project was approved in May 2010, and construction started about six months ago, said Mary Quan, managing member of the Grand Oaks Inn group. Quan expects construction will be completed this winter, with an opening in January or February.
The hotel will feature a variety of services and amenities for guests, including a full hot breakfast, wine tasting bar, conference room, exercise room, pool and spa. The hotel, which Quan said is comparable to a Holiday Inn Express, will also have a restaurant that will seat about 70 people.
About 20 to 25 people will be hired to work at the property.

Quan said the group believes the time is right to build the hotel because they expect the economy to start growing again.
“Paso is growing so fast, especially with the wine industry,” she said. “Hopefully, with the hotel, we’ll be able to pull the tourist industry and the community together.”
The San Luis Obispo office of Charles Schwab & Co. Inc. recently moved to a new location.
The larger office space is located at 733 Marsh St., Suite 100 in The Forum building downtown, next to Coast Hills Federal Credit Union.
The space, double that of Schwab’s former location on Pacific Street, provides more room for the firm’s three financial consultants and an operations manager and will allow for additional hires as the business grows.
The space also includes a conference room to host workshops.
The office has been in San Luis Obispo for the past 12 years.
