Sierra Vista gets stroke certification

Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo recently earned advanced certification as a Primary Stroke Center, following an on-site evaluation by The Joint Commission nonprofit organization.

The certification means that Sierra Vista’s stroke policies and procedures have been deemed to meet recommendations published by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association.

All hospitals in San Luis Obispo County, including French Hospital Medical Center, Sierra Vista, Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, Atascadero State Hospital and Twin Cities Community Hospital have received the Joint Commission’s basic Gold Seal accreditation.

Additionally, Sierra Vista is the only hospital in the county to receive advanced certification in the Stroke and Heart Failure categories, and Twin Cities Community Hospital has received certification in Joint Replacement, according to The Joint Commission’s website.

The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 18,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States.
