The Atascadero Chamber of Commerce hopes to hire a new president and chief executive officer within three months, Board of Directors Chairman Chuck Braun said.
Joanne Main, who had held the post since 2000, died suddenly Jan. 25 at age 58. An estimated 400 people gathered at her memorial three days later to mourn the loss of the much-loved community leader, wife, mother and grandmother.
“We all realize that we will never be able to fully replace such a dynamic, passionate (and) well-rounded leader as Joanne,” Braun e-mailed chamber members.
Chamber office manager Pat St. Clair is acting as interim CEO at the board of directors’ request until a successor is found.
A 10-person selection committee through the chamber, headed by past Chairman Donn Clickard, will lead the search for a new candidate.
The new leader will be responsible for handling an annual budget of $330,000 and coordinating resources for 475 chamber members.
The new CEO will also lead three staff members and a 15-member board and oversee member recruitment, event planning, fundraising and working with city officials.
Chambers from throughout the western United States and local media will be used in the search.
Officials expect the hiring process to take from 60 to 90 days. Feb. 28 is the last day résumés will be accepted. From there, the committee will select its top candidates and begin interviews.
The pay range for the position is from $48,000 to $58,000 plus benefits and a car allowance, Braun said.
