Jesse Torrey, 37, coordinates the Central Coast Volunteer Corps, an AmeriCorps program that places 35 members in 26 county nonprofits. “Her ‘can do’ attitude is contagious, and ensures that this valuable community resource will retain funding,” says Cal Poly’s associate director of Student Life & Leadership, Stephen Lamb. A former AmeriCorps youth mentor, Torrey also worked for five years as a supervisor for Court Appointed Special Advocates / Voices for Children and now volunteers. Born and raised in Atascadero, she holds a San Diego State bachelor’s degree in social work and a master’s degree in public policy from Cal Poly. She lives with daughter Olivia Hill-Torrey, 13.
