Chuck Silva, a major player in the Southern California beer industry, is headed north to establish his own brewery in San Luis Obispo County, where he grew up.
Silva, who helped make San Diego County a craft beer powerhouse while working as brewmaster at Green Flash Brewing Co., has announced plans to start his own brewing operation in a yet-to-be-determined location in the county.
The San Luis Obispo native resigned from Green Flash, the nation’s 48th largest craft brewery, on Monday after 11 years there.
“The time was right,” Silva, 48, told The San Diego Union-Tribune. “I’ve always wanted to have my own little operation, and my wife was very encouraging, so we decided to go for it.”
