3 SLO County wine leaders will be honored at Mid-State Fair

Jason Haas of Tablas Creek Vineyard has been named Wine Industry Person of the Year by the San Luis Obispo County wine industry.

Lino Bozzano, vice president of vineyard operations for Laetitia Vineyard & Winery, was named Winegrape Grower of the Year, and Christian Roguenant of Niven Family Wine Estates was named Winemaker of the Year.

“These awards celebrate three men whose leadership, hard work and dedication have brought worldwide recognition for the wines of San Luis Obispo County,” said Jennifer Porter, executive director of the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance.

The alliance partners with the San Luis Obispo Wine Country Association, the Independent Grape Growers of the Paso Robles Area, the Vineyard Team and past award recipients each year to identify award nominees. The wine community at large voted for the winners, who will be honored at a public ceremony at the California Mid-State Fair at 6:30 p.m. July 21.

Haas, in addition to managing Tablas Creek with his father, founder Robert Haas, also directs the vineyard’s local and national marketing efforts. He joined Tablas Creel in 2002. He is chairman of the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance Board of Directors and is a former board member of the Family Winemakers of California. In 2015, Haas was voted Paso Robles Wine Country Wine Industry Person of the Year.

Bozzano is a third-generation California farmer who became vice president of vineyard operations at Laetitia in 2004. He began his wine career in 1996 at Bien Nacido Vineyard, and then managed vineyards for the David Bruce Winery near San Jose before returning to the Central Coast. He serves on the board of directors for the Central Coast Wine Growers Association and is a member of the American Society of Enology and Viticulture and the Central Coast Vineyard Team. Bozzano was named a Tribune 2012 Top 20 under 40 winner, which honors the achievements of young women and men under the age of 40.

Roguenant, a native of Burgundy, France, grew up surrounded by vineyards and has made wine across five continents. The opportunity to make exceptional wines in San Luis Obispo County led Roguenant to settle on the Central Coast, where he makes wine for Baileyana. He has been with the Niven Family Wine Estates for about 20 years.
