San Luis Obispo Regional Rideshare is hoping that more than 1,000 people will leave their cars at home and use alternative transportation to get to work in October.
The group is offering a variety of incentives to encourage commuters to use walking, biking, carpooling, vanpooling and public transportation to get to work at least one day per week. The goal is to have 1,155 people participate, or a 10 percent increase over last year.
Incentives include daily prizes, weekly $100 cash giveaways and a grand prize of a free wine-tasting tour and lunch in Cambria on the RTA Trolley for 15 people. The benefits of using alternative transportation rather than driving alone to work include saving money, improving air quality and improving personal health.
