Jim Erb, the second-in-command to Auditor-Controller Gere Sibbach, could be appointed to replace his boss next week, although if he were appointed he would not take over until the end for the year.
The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors has scheduled a discussion on Erb’s appointment for Tuesday. Sibbach announced two weeks ago that he would retire in December after serving 22 years on the job — the longest tenure of any auditor-controller in San Luis Obispo County's history.
Sibbach recommended that supervisors replace him with Erb.
Erb, who lives in Atascadero, turns 60 later this month. He has been at Sibbach’s side during the county’s efforts to negotiate the recession.
