Firefighters with PG&E and Cal Fire on Tuesday evening responded to a small fire in a guard rail at Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant.
The fire started at 7:47 p.m. in a bluff-top guard rail overlooking the plant’s cooling water outfall. Construction crews were working on the fence when the fire broke out, said Blair Jones, PG&E spokesman.
The fire was limited to the guard rail and was put out using fire extinguishers. The incident was over by about 8 p.m. The guard rail is outside the protected area around the two nuclear reactors and did not affect plant activity, Jones said.
