UPDATE: Freeway cleared after crash snarls traffic through Pismo

UPDATE 7 p.m.

Traffic along southbound Highway 101 through Pismo Beach appears to be moving normally again, according to views from Caltrans traffic cameras.

A witness reported that a drive axle with a constant-velocity joint attached was in the center divider near the crash site, and might be related to the solo-vehicle accident, according to the CHP's media website.

No other information on the incident is available.

Original story

The California Highway Patrol reports that traffic is backed up past Spyglass Drive along southbound Highway 101 after what the agency describes as a major-injury crash near Five Cities Drive backed up traffic almost to Spyglass Drive.

A minivan reportedly rolled over before 5 p.m., ending up on its side in the freeway’s slow lane.

Traffic was still backed up as of 6:15 p.m., according to views from Caltrans cameras, though the CHP issued a conflicting report that all lanes are open.

No information is available on the circumstances of the crash or the condition of the people involved.
