Survivor of Sept. 11 WTC attack to speak in Atascadero on Sunday

The Atascadero Police Association will honor a local survivor of the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on New York's World Trade Center before its second annual golf tournament and youth sports benefit Sunday.

The man, whose name was not disclosed but lives in Arroyo Grande, managed to escape from inside the south tower after it was hit by a plane.

He plans to tell his story Sunday at Chalk Mountain Golf Club, 10000 El Bordo Ave. at 8:30 a.m. The tournament will follow.

The U.S. Marine Corps will present him with a folded American flag to give to the widow of his friend who died in the attacks.
