A citywide event to foster better relations among students and permanent residents is once again being hosted in San Luis Obispo.
The SLO Night with Your Neighbors event, sponsored by the city, Cal Poly and Cuesta College, encourages residents to host gatherings to meet neighbors. Those who sign up to host a gathering such as a barbecue, potluck or ice cream social on Oct. 2 will be provided with invitations and a yard sign.
The program, which was held for the first time two years ago, is intended to ease tensions in neighborhoods and break down stereotypes that often cause conflict.
“The purpose of the SLO Night with Your Neighbors event is to promote positive relationships between long-term and student residents, in order to create mutual respect and understanding,” said San Luis Obispo Police Chief Deborah Linden in a statement.
