UPDATED: Cal Poly falls to San Jose State

SAN JOSE — Jono Grayson ran for a career-high 138 yards and a touchdown for the Cal Poly football team, but the Mustangs still came away with a 19-9 loss at Football Bowl Championship Subdivision opponent San Jose State at Spartan Stadium on Saturday.

Former Atascadero High standout Travis Jones blocked a 30-yard fourth-quarter field goal to help seal the win for the Spartans.

Cal Poly led 9-6 at halftime, but San Jose State scored two second-half touchdowns to take the lead.

UCLA transfer Dominique Johnson had a Mustangs career-best six catches for 93 yards. Cal Poly quarterback Tony Smith was 10 for 25 for 135 yards passing.
