New principal named at Shandon Elementary School

The new principal of Shandon Elementary School is Dan Peverini.

Peverini – who comes from Greenfield Middle School in El Cajon – replaces Dorothy Halic, principal of Shandon Elementary for the past four years. Halic is the new principal of Pat Butler Elementary School in Paso Robles.

Peverini has a 12-year background as an educator, including six years as an elementary school teacher.

Shandon school district Superintendent Chris Crawford said that Peverini – who is bilingual -- has a strong background in special education and English as a Second Language programs. Shandon Elementary’s student body is about 66 percent Hispanic, Crawford said.

Crawford said that Peverini and his wife were seeking to move to San Luis Obispo County. Peverini starts his new position on Aug. 1.
