Charter cable outages around SLO County due to Cuesta Grade fire

Cable television is out around San Luis Obispo County this afternoon, after a fire on the Cuesta Grade burned a cable box.

Charter Communications customers in Atascadero, San Luis Obispo and Nipomo reported their television screens were fuzzy. Reports said internet connections were also out, though some customers said the outage was limited to their televisions.

This is the second time in two weeks a Cuesta Grade fire has caused widespread outages for Charter Communications customers.

On June 15, a fire on the northbound side near the summit of the Grade burned through cables and caused TV and internet outages around the county for several hours.

Charter officials said the company, which provides high-speed Internet and cable TV, planned to relocate some of its fiber-optic cables and credit customers who lost service after that fire.

Check back at later today and read tomorrow's Tribune for more on the outage.
