Mission Prep sophomore Jordan Hasay won the 1,500-meter girls race at the U.S. Junior Track and Field Championships in a meet record time of 4 minutes, 16.98 seconds Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis.
The junior meet is for anyone 19 years of age or younger.
The time sets a national sophomore class record and is the fourth best girls U.S. junior mark of all-time, only 38 hundreths of a second behind record-holder Kim Gallagher (1982).
Hasay needed to beat 4:19.5 to qualify for next year’s Olympic Trials and blew that time away as she pulled away in the final 100 meters.

The two next closest competitors were collegians Jessica Pixler (4:20.93) of Seattle Pacific and Nichole Jones (4:23.35) of Baylor.
