An elderly Los Osos man was seriously injured Thursday when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle while riding a bicycle on Highway 1.
Seventy-two-year-old John Weidner was in critical condition at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, a hospital official said.
Weidner was attempting to turn left shortly before 9 a.m. at Morro Bay Boulevard from northbound Highway 1, according to California Highway Patrol officials. He was riding on the right side of the off ramp with a group of cyclists and was wearing a helmet.
As Weidner outstretched his left arm to turn left across the off ramp he was struck by a sport utility vehicle driven by Greg Wood who was exiting the highway, CHP officials said.
