Oceano's fire chief resigns

Oceano’s Fire Chief Michael Steinhauser has resigned.

The 19-year department veteran announced his resignation on Monday, according to the district’s Board President Jim Hill. A special meeting of the district’s board of directors on the matter, which was planned for Monday, was canceled.

Steinhauser was a part-time chief with the department, earning $1,700 per month. Steinhauser works full-time at San Luis Ambulance.

He started with the department as a volunteer firefighter and worked his way up through the ranks.
