Hwy. 101 crashes just south of Atascadero tie up traffic for miles

Drivers traveling north on Highway 101 should prepare for delays after a multi-vehicle accident just south of Atascadero, according to the CHP.

The crash occurred about 11:20 a.m. when an SUV pulling a camper overturned south of Santa Barbara Road, according the CHP’ Web site. The vehicle was on its side and the trailer was "all apart."

A second collision happened at about 11:45 a.m., involving four to five more vehicles.

Traffic remained backed up for several miles south by 1:45 p.m. Signs were to be posted at the Prado Road ramps in San Luis Obispo warning drivers of the delays.

Officer T.J. Reece said no further information on what caused the accident or whether any injuries occurred was available.
