Man arrested in connection with beating of woman in SLO creekbed

A man wanted in connection with the beating of a woman in a San Luis Obispo creekbed was arrested Sunday evening.

Ryan James Verhault, 22, was spotted by a police officer in a shopping center at 158 S. Higuera St. at 5 p.m.

He was arrested on suspicion of beating 38-year-old Lisa Rives with rocks and sticks in the creekbed south of the Prado Street bridge early Friday evening.

Rives, a transient, was found lying at the location bleeding from the head. She was taken to French Hospital Medical Center and treated for lacerations.

Verhault, also a transient, was taken to County Jail for alleged assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $25,000.
