Veteran land use planner John Euphrat will take over the number two spot in the county Planning and Building Department, Director Vic Holanda announced this week.
Euphrat will replace Pat Beck as of July 1. Beck retired in March.
Euphrat, a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and the American Planning Association, has more than 30 years experience in land use planning, long range planning, and coastal zone management. He also is skilled at overall policy, budgeting, human resource and customer service through the use of technology.
Some accomplishments include completion and implementation of the State American Planning Association award-winning Avila Beach specific plan; managing annual housing and coastal resource grant awards in excess of $ 6 million dollars; and completion of the energy and offshore energy elements of the county’s general plan.

Euphrat said his challenges will include continuing to improve customer service through technology and increase use of the department website; increasing opportunities for affordable and work force housing; and coordinating long-range planning efforts to focus future growth in areas consistent with the county’s general plan.
