Former Templeton High and Cuesta College pitcher Chance Chapman was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the eighth round of Friday’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Chapman, a right-handed pitcher who recently wrapped up his senior season at Oral Roberts, was the 263rd overall pick.
Three Cal Poly players – Grant Desme, Evan Reed and Thomas Eager – were drafted on Thursday but Chapman was the only other player with county ties selected as of early Friday afternoon.
The 50-round draft concludes this evening.
