Public can help name state parks on North Coast

The public will have the chance to suggest names for two state parks on the county’s North Coast. State Department of Parks and Recreation officials will host a meeting on June 25 in Cayucos to share a possible name for Estero Bluffs, about four miles of oceanfront terrain just north of Cayucos. The site of the meeting has not been finalized.

Another will be held June 26 in Cambria to discuss what to name Sea West Ranch, 746 acres of rolling hills and rugged shoreline north of Point Estero and southwest of Harmony. The meeting will be at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1000 Main St. State Parks officials will discuss incorporating the present William Randolph Hearst Memorial State Beach into San Simeon State Park at a third meeting on June 28 at the new Hearst Castle Visitor Center. The memorial beach at San Simeon Bay is officially a separate park surrounded by former Hearst Ranch coastal lands that recently became part of San Simeon State Park.

Name recommendations will be sent on to the state Park and Recreation Commission. -- Kathe Tanner
