Three inmates were hurt slightly when a fight broke out at the U.S. Penitentiary.
There were no injuries to guards.
The prison’s low-security section remained locked down Wednesday while prison officials investigate the fight, spokesman Erwin Meinberg said. The three injured inmates were treated at Lompoc District Hospital and released.
Meinberg said several inmates were involved in a series of fights that broke out at two of the housing units in the low-security section around 10:45 p.m. Sunday. The number of inmates involved wasn’t disclosed.

“As a precautionary measure, the low- and medium-security institutions were placed on lockdown,” Meinberg said. The medium-security area was taken off lockdown Tuesday.
The cause of the disturbance wasn’t known.
During a lockdown, inmates are not allowed out of housing units and work and educational programs are suspended.
