Without discussion or public comment, county supervisors today put the Nacimiento pipeline project out to bid.
The resolution to take bids on the water project was approved as part of the board’s consent agenda. No supervisor asked to have the item removed from the consent agenda for discussion and no member of the public commented on it.
The project calls for laying 45 miles of pipes from Nacimiento to San Luis Obispo. Five water purveyors are signed up to receive the 15,750 acre feet of water the pipeline will deliver annually.
County public works engineers estimate the cost of the pipeline to be $190 million. However, the true cost of the project will not be known until all bids are opened by early August.

If all goes as planned, the pipeline will begin delivering water in 2010.
