Health advisory signs go back up at Pismo pier

A troubled stretch of beach just south of the Pismo Beach pier has again failed an ocean water quality test prompting county health officials to post signs warning beach-goers to stay out of the water.

Ending late last week, health advisories were posted on the beach for an unprecedented eight straight days. The beach regularly produces water samples that exceed state health standards for bacteria.

The most recent posting was based on a weekly sample taken Tuesday. County environmental health officials took a new sample today at the same time the health advisory signs were posted.

“We’ll keep testing until we get a sample that passes,” said Liberty Amundson, county environmental health specialist.
