A Grover Beach man with terminal cancer is suspected of attempting to murder a woman and then killing himself.
Police received a 911 call just after 6 a.m. this morning from a man wanting to report a murder and a suicide.
When officers arrived, they found Francis Doyle, 81, of Grover Beach and a unidentified 81-year-old woman. Doyle had died of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. The woman had been shot in the head but was able to give a statement to police, according to a press release.
A unregistered handgun was found at the scene, which Grover Beach Police think was used to commit the crime, according to the press release.
The woman was transported to Arroyo Grande Community Hospital and was later transferred to Stanford, where she is in serious condition.
