Health advisories have been posted on a stretch of beach just south of the Pismo Beach pier for one full week.
Weekly water samples taken by county environmental health officials Tuesday again showed high levels of bacteria at the troubled beach, said Liberty Amundson, county environmental health specialist.
A water sample a week ago showed unhealthy water conditions and subsequent samples continued to show high bacteria counts. This prompted county health officials to post signs on the beach advising people to stay out of the water.
This weeklong string of health advisories is unprecedented. Pismo Beach city officials have applied for a state grant to conduct a $500,000 study to determined where the bacteria is coming from and how to prevent it from getting into the water.
