Several Cuesta College students earned recognition from their participation in the SkillsUSA State Championships in mid-April, according to the local community college.

The team of James Schwind, Jordan Jacobsma, Mark Millar and Guy Miller earned first in the construction category to earn a spot at the National Skills USA Championships in Kansas City in June.

Individually, Eric Leach took second place in the automotive category and Tyler Behlen also earned silver in the auto body category. Aaron Basti won first in the California-only welding competition while teammate Lucas Levanway earned third in welding.

SkillsUSA is a national organization serving more than 264,000 high school students, college students and professional members enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled and service occupations. The competition prepares them for careers in public-oriented and technically-skilled job fields with in-classroom instruction, hands-on demonstrations and competitions.
