Former General Hospital nurse named new Cuesta Nursing Chief

Cuesta College has named San Luis Obispo resident Kathy Borland the new director of nursing and allied health.

Borland is the former director of nursing at General Hospital. She held that position from 1993 until her resignation in March of 2001. She began working for the hospital in 1986.

She is replacing Mary Parker, who directed the program for 35 years.

Cuesta has a registered nurse and licensed vocational nursing programs, in addition to nine allied health programs, such as phlebotomy, nursing assistants and emergency medical technician.

Currently, 56 new RNs graduate each year from Cuesta, but the program has more than 200 students are on the waiting list. The college recently stopped adding names to the wait list so it could discuss possibly expanding the program. Cuesta is the top source of local nurses.
