County public health officials have posted advisories on the beach immediately south of the Pismo Beach pier warning of high bacteria levels in the water.
A weekly sample taken at the beach Tuesday showed unhealthy levels of one of three types of bacteria, said Liberty Amundson, a county public health specialist.
Warning signs were posted Wednesday afternoon and another water sample was taken for testing. The signs will remain up until a sample comes back clean.
The beach near the pier regularly fails water quality tests throughout the year.
