A Monarch Grove Middle School student who biked from San Luis Obispo to Santa Barbara in stormy weather to raise money for a local charity raised more than a thousand dollars as part of a class project.
Jeremy Nielson, 12, of Los Osos, used his love for cycling to benefit Bikes for Tikes, a program started by James Ellman of Cambria to deliver bicycles to victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Jeremy collected donations from local residents and neighbors for his weekend-long, 123-mile journey February 19 to 20. He raised $1,620 to buy 19 BMX bikes, 20 helmets, and 15 seats.
