A 22-year-old Oceano man died Thursday after the car he was riding in crashed near Lake Cachuma.
At 11:20 p.m., 23-year-old Francisco Javier Vega was driving a Honda sedan eastbound on Highway 154 near Seven Oaks Ranch when he missed a left curve, according to the CHP. The car ran off the roadway and hit a guardrail and tree before stopping in brush about 100 feet off the roadway.
Vega, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car, the CHP said. He was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for head and other injuries, which were not considered life-threatening.
His unnamed passenger was also ejected from the vehicle and died after being taken to the hospital.
Vega, also of Oceano, was allegedly under the influence during the accident, the CHP said. He was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and manslaughter.
The name of the passenger is being withheld until his family has been notified.
