North Coast residents needed for disaster help

Volunteers are needed to join a group of North Coast residents trained to help themselves and their neighbors in emergency situations.

Community Emergency Response Team members help during fires, floods, earthquakes or other disasters, when fire departments, ambulance services and other agencies are likely to be overwhelmed with calls.

Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting at 6 p.m. May 14. Subsequent classes are on May 16, 21, 23 and 30, all at the Cambria Fire Station, 2850 Burton Drive.

Pre-registration is mandatory, so trainers can have the proper number of the CERT kits on hand. A $40 fee includes a manual, helmet, gloves, vest, goggles and more.
