Pismo woman seriously injured after car crash

A Pismo Beach woman was seriously injured near New Cuyama when the car she was driving crashed into a mountain.

Rachel Castelletto, 20, was in serious condition Wednesday at Marian Medical Center, according to a hospital official.

Witnesses saw Castelletto driving about 85 miles per hour and passing illegally shortly before the crash on eastbound Highway 166 near Cottonwood Canyon Road around noon Tuesday, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Castelletto ran partially off the south edge of the road, steered to the left, overcorrected and lost control of the Chevy Camaro she was driving. The car skidded across the highway and crashed into the side of a mountain, causing it to overturn.

Castelletto was partially ejected when her left arm hung outside of the t-top of the car, CHP officials said.

The car rolled over onto its roof and landed upside down at the south edge of the road. Castelletto was wearing a seatbelt, CHP officials said.
