The Los Osos Community Services District adopted a 20 percent water rate increase across the board Thursday to ensure that its water district services can continue to operate.
District board members said they needed the boost to provide for the projected amount needed to operate water services this year and to make up for a shortfall identified in February 2007.
About 40 property owners protested the increase during public comment periods at district meetings.
Rate increases for the nearly 8,000 customers who receive their water services through the district will go into effect May 19.
