‘It’s the stuff of science fiction, a perfect world where a master race clones another race. The inevitable happens: With so many replicas, the individual becomes disposable.
“Walking down the kennel aisles at the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services shelter, you might wonder whether you’ve stepped into that sci-fi novel. Even though there are a variety of dog breeds, it’s clear that chihuahuas and pit bulls are the current fad that continues to be replicated by some, only to be disposed of by others.
“Rudy wants to stand out. He’s a neutered, 2-year-old red chihuahua who came to the shelter as a stray before Christmas and has been waiting to find a home ever since.
“Rudy enjoys giving and getting affection. If given the chance, he’ll climb into your lap and stay for as long as you want him to. Rudy has many shelter dog pals and has harmoniously shared a kennel with a variety of small dogs. Rudy loves to go for walks and likes to meet new people; he’s just a good little guy.

“To find the right four-legged companion, it’s good to evaluate a dog on his or her own merits, because appearances only tell part of the story.
“The diversity of dog personalities at the shelter makes it clear that each one is an individual and not a clone. Each will make the perfect pet for some household. Maybe Rudy’s your perfect match.”
