“Pancake could be feeling pretty sad and flat finding herself homeless at the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services shelter.
“But Pancake is keeping a positive attitude. She’s a five-year-old fluffy gray and buff jumbo cat who likes to meet-and-greet. And though Pancake has been at the shelter since mid-September she’s still hoping to find a loving family with a cozy couch.
“During the holidays there are a number of ways you can give the gift of helping homeless pets such as Pancake at the SLO County Animal Services Shelter:
• Donate to the ARF Fund — Donations directly benefit the shelter dogs and cats. ARF gift cards are available for the pet-lover on your list.

• Give the Gift of Choosing a Pet — Adoption Gift Certificates pre-pay all adoption fees, so the recipient can choose the perfect pet.
• Adopt a Pet for Yourself — give a shelter animal a new life while opening a kennel for another homeless dog or cat.
“Tis the season to think of those less fortunate and to count our blessings. This year nearly 5,000 homeless pets came to our shelter, pushing us beyond capacity. But our hearts go out to counties where overcrowding is worse; in 2012 Fresno County animal shelters housed over 32,000 homeless pets.
“Being homeless, among so many, could make even Pancake flat. Thankfully — for all concerned — dogs and cats don’t have heads for statistics, but they do have hearts full of hope.”
— Animal shelter volunteer Ellen Perryess
