Summertime is kitten time in SLO County

Kitten season has arrived and the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services shelter has plenty of kittens that are ready for forever homes. Here’s what shelter volunteer Ellen Perryess has to say about a couple of kittens:

There’s something about kittens. Just say the word, and people smile. To pet a kitten and hear it purr is to know joy.

Summer’s an ideal time to welcome a kitten into your life. From now through mid-fall, many stray and owner-surrendered kittens will become homeless.

Skip and Stacy are great examples. Skip was surrendered by his owner, and Stacy came to the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services shelter with her littermates when she was just a month old.

At another county shelter, such young, motherless kittens wouldn’t survive, but thankfully a shelter foster family took Stacy and her brothers home and gave them the care they needed. Still, other fosters help by reducing shelter overcrowding. Want to foster? Call Andrea at 781-4418.

To help Skip, Stacy and other kittens find homes, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, kittens will be on the front lawn of the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services shelter — with even more inside. Each kitten will be waiting for that special person or family to adopt them.

For more information about Stacy, ID No. 205962, or Skip, ID No. 206609, call the volunteer line at the San Luis Obispo County animal shelter at 781-4413 or visit www.sloanimalservices .com.

The Animal Services shelter is at 885 Oklahoma Ave., off Highway 1 in San Luis Obispo. To see more shelter animals available for adoption, visit www.sloanimal services.com.

The adoption fee is $80 for cats and $105 for dogs, plus a $25 county license fee for dogs if the adopters are San Luis Obispo County residents. The adoption fee includes spay or neuter, basic vaccinations, microchip, eligibility for a free veterinarian check, new collar and ID tag, and carrier for cats.
