The 26th annual Roll Out the Barrels is coming to San Luis Obispo next week, with new “Adventures in Wine Country” events including vineyard walks, hikes, farm-to-table lunches, picnics in the vineyards and specialty barrel tastings.

The festival kicks off June 23, with Barrels in the Plaza, where San Luis Obispo-area wineries pour samples alongside bites from a variety of local chefs in Mission Plaza. As in past years, the party continues through the weekend with open houses and special tastings at the wineries, but with the addition of the new events, which cost from $15 to $85.

“We topped it off by offering educational, experience-driven events to help connect attendees to the people behind the wine,” San Luis Obispo Wine Country Association Executive Director Heather Muran said. “Some events are extremely limited, while others are larger and host live music, food and wine.”

Tickets for Barrels in the Plaza and many of the new events are still available at www.slowine.com, though a Friday night collaborative winemaker dinner by Ember Chef Brian Collins is nearly sold out.
