Phoebe Bridgers announces second phone-free SF Chase Center show due to demand
Phoebe Bridgers' 2020 album "Punisher" was a breakout hit, but almost no one could've predicted that the indie songwriter would become an arena act, let alone one that could fill one of San Francisco's biggest venues two times over. Last week, it was announced that she'd be playing Chase Center, and before tickets even went on sale, demand is high enough to warrant a second show.
Bridgers is scheduled to perform on Oct. 27 and 28, with official artist presale tickets available on June 9 and general tickets available on June 12 at 10 a.m.
The indie rocker has been active since the mid-2010s, playing shows in the Los Angeles area since she was in high school. She's known for poetic and confessional lyrics, mixed with instrumentation that ranges from the somber acoustic guitar strumming of "Scott Street" to the cacophonous wall of sound on "I Know the End." In 2021, she performed "I Know the End" on "Saturday Night Live," concluding the song by smashing her guitar onstage. In addition to her solo work, she serves as one-third of the folk supergroup Boygenius alongside Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus. She also released a collaborative album with Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes called "Better Oblivion Community Center" in 2019. Indie rocker Alex G is slated to open the San Francisco shows, while Black Country, New Road frontman Isaac Wood is slated to open the international leg of the tour alongside Anais Meir.
Notably, the show will be phone-free, with Bridgers enlisting the company Yondr to supply attendees with locking pouches to keep their phones off. It's a move she's used over the past weeks as she's tested out new material on a tour of small towns like Roswell, New Mexico. The tour culminated in a sold-out Madison Square Garden charity show benefiting Community Justice Exchange's Immigration Bond Freedom Fund.
