Netflix Announces 1st Look at Remake of Beloved Show and Fans Are Upset

Many people in the U.S. grew up with Scooby-Doo. Who doesn't remember Scooby, Shaggy, Velma, the Mystery Machine, and all the rest? However, the original Scooby-Doo was a cartoon.

Netflix is taking that iconic animated series and remaking it with a real dog. And now that streaming giant is giving fans a first look. Netflix released a teaser trailer that shows the real-life pooch playing the legendary canine. However, the streamer was blistered online by fans, who don't think the Netflix dog looks like Scooby-Doo.

"That is not Scooby Doo," responded a fan. "How do you get Scooby's breed wrong?" another fan wrote. "Scooby Doo is supposed to be a Great Dane. Only idiots can mess up this badly," another fan responded.

Scooby-Doo Is Seen Sniffing Around the Woods Until He Spots Shaggy

It's not only the dog that is real in the remake. All of the characters are played by human actors.

"In the new teaser above, Scooby-Doo: Origins' titular pup - the franchise's first-ever real-dog Scooby-Doo - sniffs around the woods until he spots Shaggy Rogers (Tanner Hagen) wandering nearby," Netflix wrote in a release.

"Then, at the tail-end of the clip, viewers get their first glimpse of the live-action, floppy-eared canine in his iconic teal collar as he's cradled by his new best friend. And yes, he's every bit the good boy fans hoped he'd be."

Added Netflix, "For more than 50 years, Scooby-Doo has been a pop-culture powerhouse. The franchise has spawned three theatrical films, more than a dozen animated series, and nearly 40 animated home entertainment movies. But Scooby-Doo: Origins marks the first time Scooby-Doo will appear as a real dog. Can we get a round of a-paws for the new pup?"

Some Fans Don't Believe the Netflix Pup Looks Like Scooby-Doo

Fan reaction online was mixed with some people arguing the pooch doesn't look like the cartoon Scooby-Doo.

"Finally real? Bro spent 50 years as a cartoon and now he's a labrador? Netflix wildin," wrote one person.

"Nahhh they've destroyed my scooby doo. They shoudve just used a pit bull then smh," wrote another.

"Scooby Doo is a great dane. The joke is he's this massive dog who is afraid of everything. This isn't Scooby Doo, and no matter how hard you insist, it will never be Scooby Doo," wrote another fan.

The Netflix Remake of Scooby-Doo Will Focus on a 'Haunting Mystery'

Premiering in 2027, Scooby-Doo: Origins "will follow Shaggy and his old pal Daphne Blake (Mckenna Grace) during their final summer at camp, as seen in the new teaser. The teens become embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder," Netflix explained.

"With help from the pragmatic and scientific townie Velma Dinkley (Abby Ryder Fortson) and the strange but ever-so-handsome new kid Fred Jones (Maxwell Jenkins), they set out to solve the case that's pulling them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all their secrets," wrote Netflix.

"Based on the characters from the Hanna-Barbera cartoon, the beloved group of teens and their very special dog will explore the terrifying case that first brought Mystery Inc. together."
