The Cambria Pub & Steakhouse opened quietly on Sunday, Nov. 4. At least, that was the intention, but “by the time the (football) game started, the place was pretty full,” said Rob Maston, a pub co-owner.

The new restaurant in Cambria’s historic East Village is where Mustache Pete’s Italian Eatery was until it closed after a fire in the summer of 2010. The space, across Center Street from the Cambria Historical Museum on Burton Drive, has been vacant since then.

Maston and his wife and co-owner, Kim, have done extensive work on the 3,500-square foot space.

“We want to thank everybody so much for their patience, understanding and enthusiasm,” Rob Maston said about the lengthy remodeling project.

“We are very excited to add another restaurant to the Cambria mix. We believe that if we have fun, so will our customers, and if we do well, it will help draw more people to Cambria and increase everyone’s success.”

About 200 invited community members got a complimentary preview of the 115-seat restaurant and its food late in October.

The Mastons used experience and suggestions reaped then to tweak the menu and restaurant operations before its recent soft opening.

The Cambria Pub & Steakhouse is dedicated to fresh and seasonal quality food served in a casual, fun atmosphere, according to the Mastons. Its menu will feature locally raised beef, but will also include fish, poultry and vegetarian dishes. There is a full bar serving liquor and local beer and wine.

For now, the restaurant opens at 4 p.m. five days a week and at 10 a.m. Sundays. It’s closed Wednesdays.

There are currently about 30 employees. More will be added when it opens for lunch.

Darlene DeBacker is the chef. She has worked at both Hunter Ranch and Chalk Mountain golf courses, as well as at Villa Toscana.
