Tasteful spread at Sunset Savor the Central Coast

Thousands of people attended the Sunset Savor the Central Coast event at Santa Margarita Ranch over the weekend, a showcase of food, wine and gardening.

Wineries from throughout San Luis Obispo County, as well as the Santa Maria Valley, Monterey County and Idaho, poured vintages for eventgoers to try. Chefs from Central Coast restaurants offered a range of samples, from barbecued beef to chilled melon soup to chocolate.

Besides wines, local breweries poured beers. There was even a gourmet water station — a welcome relief over the hot weekend, as the temperature reached 102 degrees Sunday.

The cities of San Luis Obispo County as well as key tourist towns like Avila Beach, had informational displays about their communities. And demonstration gardens showed how vegetables could be grown in small spaces and rainwater could be captured in tanks and used for irrigation.

Various celebrity chefs, such as Ted Allen, were showcased in cooking displays.

Sunset magazine and the San Luis Obispo County Visitors and Conference Bureau co-sponsored the event.
