Local man to make candy-flavored beer for Cool Hand Luke's

A San Luis Obispo County home brewer that's mixing up an alternative beer that's said to taste like candy is now head brewer at Cool Hand Luke’s restaurant in Paso Robles.

Ty Armstrong of TNA CandyBeers plans to debut a series of sweet tasting brews for restaurant customers in the coming months.

Last year, Armstrong and his business partner Judy Shapazian promoted a campaign with funding website Kickstarter.com to start a local brewpub for their products on the Central Coast.

“The Kickstarter program ran its course, and we didn't receive enough money pledges to make our dream,” Armstrong said.

But the team knew their brews infused with homemade candies, exotic teas and fresh fruits still had a market.

“We have been at several beer events from Los Angeles to Cambria and all we hear is, ‘Where can I buy it?’” Armstrong said. “So, we have known for some time that we are on to something special.”

The Atascadero resident plans to debut his first beer with Cool Hand Luke’s in mid-October. It’s called Luke's Golden Red IPA, which Armstrong says has a light fruity front with a medium citrus hop addition. It will be sold as a flagship beer on the restaurant’s menu and will also be available on tap.

Luke's Sweet & Sour Hefe, Luke's TNA Dark Jamacian CandiAle and the TNA RootBeer Stout would then follow in stages through the winter.
