Two Blocks Off the Beach
Where: 791 Dolliver St.,
Open: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily
Info: 773-0332, www.twoblocks
So you spent all afternoon body-surfing, browsed local shops for souvenirs and watched the sun set on another sunny autumn day in Pismo Beach. What happens when it’s too late for clam chowder at Splash Café? Stroll down to Two Blocks Off the Beach for another nighttime favorite — bruschetta topped with salami, roasted artichoke and brie. The staff is friendly, the wine selection ample and the accommodations — sofas, booths and a long wine bar — more than cozy.
Where: 7300 El Camino Real, Atascadero
Open: 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; 6 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday
A family-style restaurant, Carrows offers a little of everything Denny’s-style with a dinner menu heavy on steak and seafood. Late-night diners looking for something sweet should try the Jumpy Monkey Sundae, which features coffee ice cream, hot fudge, bananas and whipped cream. There are also a couple of appetizer samplers — one Southwestern-themed with chicken strips, bean-and-corn egg rolls and a quesadilla, the other with a more Italian flair.
Palazzo Giuseppe’s and Giuseppe’s Cucina Italiana

Whether you’re seeking a chic bar and outdoor patio for your late-night dining or a quaint traditional setting, both Giuseppe’s locations will satisfy your Italian food cravings until 11 p.m. on the weekends.
The posh setting is an ideal place to hang with a glass of wine or specialty martini and some pizza before a night on the town. In Pismo, it’s one of your only options for some tasty appetizers or dinner after 10 p.m., when most other eateries are closed. Rather than get stuck eating fast food, you can lounge in the traditional dining room or cozy bar and enjoy some authentic Italian cuisine.
Jocko’s Steak House
Where: 125 N. Thompson Ave., Nipomo
Open: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekends
This Nipomo eatery’s minimal decor and casual atmosphere has yet to deter patrons who often wait up to two hours to dine at the classic steakhouse.
Some argue it’s the best steak in the county, though there’s some steep competition. In any case, its welcoming vibe and menu full of juicy steaks makes it the perfect spot to fill up on some cowboy grub late at night without getting annoyed looks from staff who want to go home. The bar attracts a regular following with its decently priced drinks and tasty dishes, which we think helps secure this place as a Central Coast gem.

Americana on the walls and trendy dishes on the menu are the norm at Applebee’s. Standards like the orange chicken bowl, pork ribs, grilled steaks and barbecue riblets are popular favorites alongside newer items such as the quesadilla burger and the Tuscan pesto chicken ciabatta. There’s even a selection of Weight Watchers items for the diet-conscious. And here’s a bonus for late-night eaters: Appetizers are half-price from 9 p.m. until closing.

The appeal of one of California’s best-known burger chains is pretty simple: generous burgers and crispy fries made to order. Of course, it helps if you know the secret code. Try your sandwich Animal Style — served with pickles, grilled onions and extra spread. What about a bun-free Flying Dutchman? Only the truly courageous and/or desperate should attempt anything bigger than the 4-by-4, which features four meat patties and four slices of American cheese.

There are few places that serve hot meals all day and night, and most of them seem to be Denny’s restaurants. The chain’s signature dishes aren’t long on originality — lots of comfort food like pancakes and meat-and-veggie skillets, and diner favorites like chicken-fried steak and a wide variety of sandwiches and burgers. But the food is plentiful and cheap, and pretty tasty — and for cold winter nights out, it’s hard to go wrong with unlimited refills of hot chocolate topped with whipped cream.
