Hey, ice cream fans: You’ve got one last chance to enjoy Doc Burnstein’s
Fans of Doc Burnstein’s will get one last chance to enjoy the iconic ice cream in Arroyo Grande.
Greg Steinberger, who co-founded Doc Burnstein’s Ice Cream Lab, said three of the now-defunct brand’s iconic ice cream flavors will be served for free at the annual Camp Arroyo Grande Jamboree on Friday, June 3.
Doc Burnstein’s closed suddenly in February amid financial troubles and allegations of mismanagement — leaving many in the community without the opportunity to get a scoop of their favorite flavors before it shuttered. The shop in the Village has since been taken over by Rori’s Artisanal Creamery, which is in the process of transforming the location into its newest spot.
“This is a chance to celebrate what Doc Burnstein’s stood for in the community,” Steinberger said in the news release. “This will be the final chance to enjoy flavors locals have enjoyed since 2003.”
Steinberger, who is now executive director of what was formerly “The Methodist Campground,” said the ice cream chain’s iconic Motor Oil, Birthday Cake and Merlot Raspberry Truffle flavors will be served for free at the event.
The ice cream will be made by Leo Leo Gelato of Paso Robles using the original Doc Burnstein’s recipes, according to the release.
The Jamboree will also feature other activities, historical displays, a free lunch from the 5-Cities Men’s Club and live music by Monte Mills & the Lucky Horseshoe Band, according to the release.
It’s an opportunity to celebrate the historic campground, which was close to disappearing forever until it was bought in 2017 by the 5-Cities Community Service Foundation and restored as an event space.
The Jamboree will take place on Saturday, June 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 250 Wesley St. in Arroyo Grande. More event details are available at camparroyogrande.org.
