Willie Nelson to perform in San Luis Obispo in April

One of country’s original outlaws is coming to town this spring.

Country legend Willie Nelson, who performed Sunday at the Grammy Awards alongside fellow stars Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson and Blake Shelton, will take the stage April 8 at the Performing Arts Center in San Luis Obispo.

An actor, author, activist and singer-songwriter whose bandannas, gray braids and distinctive voice make him instantly recognizable, Nelson is one of the leaders of the outlaw country movement. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1993 and received Kennedy Center Honors in 1998.

The winner of 11 Grammy Awards and countless other honors, he has released nearly 70 studio albums in the course of his six-decade career, including “Shotgun Willie,” “Red Headed Stranger” and “Star Dust,” as well as several live albums, compilations and collaborations.

Last year, Nelson released “Let’s Face the Music and Dance,” composed of country, jazz, pop and rock standards, and “To All the Girls ” featuring duets with country music’s top female vocalists.

Tickets for Nelson’s April 8 concert, which cost $50 to $100, go on sale Friday.
