Ex-Dead Kennedys singer Jello Biafra coming to SLO

Jello Biafra is bringing his hard-hitting punk rock sound and firebrand politics to San Luis Obispo next month.

Best known as the frontman of the seminal San Francisco punk band Dead Kennedys, whose society-skewering hits include “California Über Alles,” “Holiday in Cambodia” and “Kill the Poor,” Biafra launched a solo career as a left-leaning activist, spokenword artist and musician when the group broke up in 1986 following an obscenity trial. Since then, he’s enjoyed a contentious relationship with his former bandmates, resulting in disputes over the commercial use of Dead Kennedy music and lawsuits related to the payment of royalties from their record label, Alternative Tenacles. Biafra and his current backing band, the Guantanamo School of Medicine, are slated to release their third album, “White People and the Damage Done,” in April.

The group per forms April 16 at SLO Brewing Co., 1119 Garden St. in San Luis Obispo. Tickets are $15.
